The first week of proper training for Trek 26: dragging my boyfriend along with me.

The training started before I went back to my university in London. On Sunday, me and my boyfriend, who I had forced to join me, walked 10 miles of our local forest track. I will not lie – it was very difficult. In fact, it was a lot more difficult than I thought and for the first time I thought that maybe my dad and I had bitten off more than we could chew.

However, I felt good after we had finished the 10 miles (apart from the blisters on my feet) and I felt more motivated to carry on practicing. I went back to London on Tuesday and decided to drag my boyfriend along with me. I did warn him we would be walking everywhere, and he still agreed to come.

The first day I wanted us to start relatively easy. We walked from Islington to Oxford Street which was about a two- and a half-mile walk. However, we did take a few detours, so it did end up adding up to more.

Wednesday was a little less productive as I went to have drinks with my friends. We only managed to rack up 10,000 steps – but it was better than nothing. Weirdly, on Thursday we did basically the same amount of steps as on Tuesday (roughly 19,000) which according to a step to miles calculator worked out at about 7 miles. On Friday we took it a little easier as my boyfriend was complaining about the blisters he had on his feet. I couldn’t force him to walk more as he isn’t even doing the Trek26!

I will not lie; I did slack on the weekend as I had work but I have just started back up with my fitness classes so I am hoping that will motivate me more.

I am also extremely happy as I have just reached my £300 donation goal and I still have over a month until the 26-mile walk!

Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks I can up the distance I walk just to prepare my feet for what is to come.

I will attach the link to our JustGiving page as my dad and I still need as many donations as possible as it all makes such a difference. Over the course of the pandemic, funding for Alzheimer’s Society has plummeted so it is more important now than ever to donate and share where you can.
